It’s a Super Bowl Alternative Weekend Special

Looking for ideas and recipes for a Super Bowl spread? Not a problem … you’ll find ideas and recipes for a super Super Bowl party here!

Downton Cast - Season 4Oh no … one of the talking heads on the morning news just announced that the Super Bowl is more than a football game. In fact, much more. It seems that the Super Bowl is a cultural event, an American tradition. Holy Moly, such a dilemma. Sunday night is Downton night. Will Downton diehards be arrested for treason if they skip the Super Bowl.

If you and a few of your friends are willing to brave the wrath of the culture police, well close the curtains and break out the champagne and join the upstairs- downstairs escapades of Lord Grantham, Lady Mary, Carson and Co.

Here are a couple of ideas for nibblies:

A simple cracker, slice of toasted baguette or crispy cucumber will be delicious with a dab of Smoked Salmon Mousse or Tapenade. Don’t forget to add a few Rosemary Cashews.

And for something a bit more substantial:

Pass a tray of Spanakopita Triangles or serve delicious wedges of Asparagus & Goat Cheese Tart. And maybe a mug of soup to sip … how about Soupe de Poisson Provençal (Fish Soup) or Wild Mushroom Soup?

Just in time for the closing credits .. a sweet treat.

While the possibles are endless … a lovely pud sounds good. How about Ginger Crème BrûléeTriple Chocolate Cream Parfait or Maple Mousse with Apple Compote?

And if skipping the Super Bowl is not an option? There’s always a repeat performance later in the week, Netflix or On Demand. Invite your pals for the encore.

Football or footmen … which ever you choose – enjoy and bon appétit!
